This website is the Kansas Infrastructure Hub’s clearinghouse for resources to help Kansas entities make the most of federal funding available under BIL.

What is BIL?

BIL is shorthand for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. BIL also has another name — the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). You’ll see BIL and IIJA used interchangeably —they mean the same thing.

BIL provides historic investment in United States infrastructure over a five-year period. About 60% of this funding is considered formula, sometimes called “directed funds,” that will have specific federal requirements. The remaining 40% will be discretionary grants which will have their own set of federal requirements. The total investment across the United States is $1.2 trillion and includes nearly 400 formula and discretionary grant programs across 12 federal agencies.

BIL supports investments in transportation, energy, broadband, water, cybersecurity, and resilience.
